Tiziana Lipiello
\nCa\u2019 Foscari University of Venice<\/em><\/h1>\n

Tiziana Lipiello teaches classical Chinese and the History of Chinese Philosophy and Religions at Ca\u2019 Foscari University of Venice. She is currently Vice-Rector in this university, and has held several academic posts in international academic institutions. She got her Ph.D. from Leiden University in 1994. Her research concentrates on early Chinese thought, religious studies, and Chinese ethics.
\nShe is the director of the publication series La fenice, Classici cinesi<\/em> (Marsilio Editore) and Sinica venetiana<\/em> (Ca\u2019Foscari).<\/p>\n

The modernity of Ancient Chinese Thought: linguistic and philosophical interpretations<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

At the beginning of the 20th century the Chinese intellectuals confuted and refused Chinese traditional culture as they thought that Confucianism and Chinese traditional thought in general had hindered the scientific, economic and social progress. But in recent years we witness a revival of the tradition, on the political and on the cultural spheres, with the ambition to provide new answers to the contradictions and problems of contemporary western societies. What are the values promoted in China today and what is their impact on Chinese society? The lecture will provide some theories promoted by Chinese scholars and their interpretation of the role of philosophy today.<\/p>\n
