During the 20th and 21st of November 2025, a seminar-workshop on sensory history was held at the Autonomous University of Madrid, entitles “Sentir la Edad Moderna”, where we were able to participate with the teaching of a workshop, by Tasio Rodrigo together with Elsa Pinto (University of Granada) and Saun Martinez Bermejo (Autonomous University of Madrid). In the workshop, entitled “Birds and other animals. The reconstruction of American sounds”, sounds were played and some pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican instruments were played in front of the audience.
The first day was dedicated to seminars, where some academics presented their research on the role of the minor senses in history (taste, touch, smell) and where there was room for reflection on the methodologies and challenges of sensory history. The book “La memoria de los sentidos. El Nuevo Mundo y los sentidos menores” co-edited by Jana Cerna, Juan Pimentel and Angelica Morales Sarabia was also presented.

The second day was dedicated to workshops, where we even recreated an 18th century recipe for chocolate with cakes. The experience was very enriching to think about the role of other sensory experiences in the history of science.
