The UMAQ conference is committed to providing an inclusive environment, and we will do our best to accommodate requests for specific assistance. This page describes the accessibility features of the UMAQ conference, to help you make an informed decision about whether or not the conference will be accessible to you. Please contact us<\/a> if your question is not answered here, or if the conference arrangements as described are not sufficient to allow you to attend. <\/a>Will presentations be accessible?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
We have prepared a document with specific guidelines for creating accessible presentations. All speakers will be asked to comply with them, although we cannot guarantee that all will do so.<\/span><\/span>

<\/a>What are the accessibility services provided during the conference?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
We will try to provide live subtitles using webcaptioner, although we cannot guarantee that the system will work without any problems. <\/span><\/span>
Large print, dyslexia-friendly, and Braille versions of the conference programme will be provided upon request. If you wish to receive one, please contact us by 15 April 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Will the conference venue be accessible?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
Yes. The conference will take place in the auditorium of the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors. The auditorium is located on the ground floor. Entrance to the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors as well as the whole ground floor, including the auditorium, are step-free.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>What are the arrangements for presenters with accessibility needs?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
All speakers will present from the stage located at the end of the conference hall. The stage is raised, with four steps located on the right side and a ramp located on the left side. Presenters will usually stand and speak from the podium, located on the right side of the stage, near the four steps. If necessary, presenters will speak while seated at the speakers\u2019 table on stage. If you would like a volunteer to operate slides or guide you onto and off the stage, or have other accessibility requests, please contact us by 15 April 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Can I bring my guide dog?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
Yes. Guide dogs are welcome at the UMAQ Conference. When you register for the conference, there will be a registration field labelled, “If you have any specific needs, please indicate here”. In your message, please indicate if you anticipate bringing a guide dog to the conference.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Will speakers and audience members asking questions be using a microphone?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
Yes, microphones will be used for all speakers. Attendees with questions will be requested to use a microphone so that their question is more easily heard.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Where is the conference venue located?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
The conference will take place at the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors, in Carrer de l’Hospital 64. Carrer de l’Hospital is located in the city centre, more specifically, in the neighbourhood called “El Raval”. The street is overlooking the Ramblas, Barcelona’s main thoroughfare.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>What are the public transport options for getting to the conference venue?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
The Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors cannot be directly reached by public transport. Nonetheless, you can use the city bus network or the metro to reach the Ramblas. Then the route from the Ramblas to the conference venue is almost step-free.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Barcelona public bus transport service is accessible to users with reduced mobility as well as deaf and blind persons. If you use the bus network, your stop is Liceu, located on the Ramblas. The route from the Liceu stop to the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors, using the sidewalk on the right of Carrer de l’Hospital, is almost step-free.<\/span><\/span> You can find more information on the accessibility of the city bus network on the following website: www.tmb.cat\/en\/barcelona\/accessibility-mobility-reduced<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole Barcelona metro network is wheelchair adapted, except some stations (15 out of a total of 156).<\/span><\/span>
The nearest metro station is Liceu, on the metro line L3 – Green. The Liceu station is located on the Ramblas and equipped with an elevator, which will leave you just a few meters from the beginning of Carrer de l’Hospital. The route from the Liceu station to the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors, using the sidewalk on the right of Carrer de l’Hospital, is almost step-free.<\/span><\/span> You can find more information on the accessibility of the metro network on the following website: www.tmb.cat\/en\/barcelona\/accessibility-mobility-reduced<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>What are the accessible public transport options for getting to the conference venue from the airport?<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
From Barcelona airport, the easiest way to get to the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors is by Aerobus. If you arrive using the Aerobus, your stop is Pla\u00e7a Catalunya. The route from the Aerobus stop in Pla\u00e7a Catalunya to the Resid\u00e8ncia de Investigadors, via the Ramblas first and then Carrer de l’Hospital, is almost step-free.<\/span><\/span>

The website www.barcelona-access.com<\/a> provides information on accessible services, hotels, and cultural venues around the city.<\/span><\/span> It also provides information on accessible transport within the city and on the route from the Barcelona Airport to the city centre.<\/span><\/span>
The website is run by the Barcelona Tourism Consortium and provides information in four languages: English, French, Catalan, and Spanish.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
