On October 30, 2024, the WIRE project hosted a powerful theatrical performance titled Caure – To Fall<\/strong> at the Sala Moragues of El Born Centre de Cultura i Mem\u00f2ria<\/a> in Barcelona. This event was part of the final stop of the Memory Route<\/a>, focusing on the theme of women’s political repression during the Francoist dictatorship in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commissioned by Memorial Democr\u00e0tic<\/a> for the WIRE Project, Caure – To Fall<\/strong> was written and directed by Helena Tornero Brugu\u00e9s, a distinguished playwright and director. Helena, a graduate in Directing and Playwriting from the Higher School of Dramatic Art at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, has an impressive portfolio of works including Submergir-se en l\u2019aigua<\/strong> (SGAE Award 2007), Suplicants<\/strong> (2008), Apatxes<\/strong> (14 d\u2019Abril Award 2009), and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caure – To Fall<\/strong> offers a poignant journey through the life, events, and emotions of a woman who embodies many women simultaneously. The play features temporal jumps, transporting the audience to various years during one of Spain’s darkest periods\u2014the Francoist era of the 40s, 60s, and 70s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The premiere was a resounding success, with over two hundred spectators attending the performance at one of Barcelona’s most iconic venues. Among the attendees were all the students of the WIRE project and members of the Associaci\u00f3 Catalana de Persones Ex-preses Pol\u00edtiques del Franquisme<\/a>, who experienced political repression during the dictatorship. The organizers also opened the event to the public, allowing more than one hundred Catalan citizens to enjoy the play for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the performance, a vibrant dialogue took place with Helena Tornero, Javier Rodrigo (coordinator of the WIRE project), and the students. This discussion delved into the play’s themes and the broader subject of women’s resistance against totalitarian regimes in Europe, engaging students from various countries and the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial Democr\u00e0tic, in collaboration with Ad Hoc<\/a> association, plans to replicate Caure – To Fall<\/strong> in other theatrical spaces in 2025, ensuring that this powerful narrative continues to reach and inspire new audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
