{"id":745,"date":"2024-11-08T13:19:31","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T11:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/wire\/?p=745"},"modified":"2024-11-18T13:28:23","modified_gmt":"2024-11-18T11:28:23","slug":"academic-conference-on-womens-resistance-in-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webs.uab.cat\/wire\/2024\/11\/08\/academic-conference-on-womens-resistance-in-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic conference on women&#8217;s resistance in Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the final events of the WIRE project, an academic conference on women&#8217;s resistance in Europe was held at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhcat.cat\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mhcat.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Museu d&#8217;Hist\u00f2ria de Catalunya<\/a> in Barcelona on October 30-31, 2024. This conference brought together experts and students to discuss and analyse the diverse experiences of women in antifascist struggles across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event began with a welcome address and opening conference by Professor Javier Rodrigo from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), who is also the principal investigator of the WIRE project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The morning session featured prominent scholars in the field of gender history and antifascist resistance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mercedes Yusta<\/strong> from Universit\u00e9 Paris 8, Spain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tasoula Vervenioti<\/strong>, a historian from Greece<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Roberta Mira<\/strong> from the University of Bologna, Italy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Barbara Klich-Kluczewska<\/strong> from Jagiellonian University, Poland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These experts provided a comprehensive analysis of the current state of transnational studies on war, resistance, gender, and violence, highlighting the diversity of women&#8217;s resistance and the violence they endured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After lunch, the conference continued with presentations from four Memory Routers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Giovanni Maria Avella<\/strong> from Italy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Patrik Cia\u0142o\u0144<\/strong> from Poland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mart\u00ed Grau<\/strong> from Spain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nikoleta Mavrommati<\/strong> from Greece<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These final-year university students shared their experiences and the profound impact the Memory Route, a four-month journey through Greece, Italy, Poland, and Spain, had on them both personally and professionally. They discussed key themes in European history related to resistance to oppression and women&#8217;s participation, life stories they researched, and the narrative game scenarios they created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference concluded with remarks from Magdalini Fytili, from UAB, emphasizing the transnational perspective on the diversity of women&#8217;s resistance in Europe. She highlighted how these stories are helping to reshape historical memory and influence modern understanding of the struggle for freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery
