On May 23rd and 24th, the ORGACCM (Organización Galega de Comunidades de Montes en Man Común) held its VIII congress at the House of Culture in the Municipality of Allariz.
The congress is a quadrennial meeting designed to collectively determine the requests, demands, and main priorities of the ORGACCM in defending the heritage of the Montes against contemporary challenges. These include climate change, legal threats to their existence, and the political undervaluing of their experiences.
Today, the communities of Montes represent the core of ecological sustainability in Galicia. They manage their territories, ensuring ecological services that extend far beyond their own members. Clean water, green spaces, and air purification are just some of the ecosystem services that the socio-ecological system of the Montes preserves and guarantees for Galicia.
In this context, the WRENCH project proposed an activity to assess the relevance of memory and heritage in ensuring the survival and importance of the Montes, both ecologically and socially.
