Colloquium with Jaume Franquesa<\/strong>, professor at the University of Buffalo (New York) and visiting professor of the Master’s in History of Science at the UAB, Pobles Vius<\/strong>, a collective of people and entities concerned about the biogas plant project in la Sentiu de Si\u00f3 and united by \u00abthe desire to live in this land in a dignified and healthy way\u00bb, other neighbors<\/strong> of the region and, as always, the attending public<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaume Franquesa<\/strong> is an anthropologist specializing in environmental conflicts, history of energy, and the author of the book Power struggles<\/em>, translated into Spanish as Molinos y gigantes: La lucha por la dignidad, la sobiran\u00eda energ\u00eda y la transici\u00f3n ecol\u00f3gica<\/em><\/a> (\u00abMills and giants: The struggle for dignity, energy sovereignty, and the ecological transition\u00bb). This book, one of the first of its kind internationally, clearly and rigorously demonstrates that no true \u00abgreen transition\u00bb can be dictated by the energy oligopoly and how it is essential to listen to the voices and knowledge of those who inhabit rural areas and refuse to be silenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seminar<\/a> explores the intersections between reproductive politics, networks and production of knowledge from a historical, sociological and science and technology studies (STS) perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Departing from the notion of reproductive politics, the seminar analyzes activist movements, communication and global market networks that have\u00a0configured reproductive rights, scientific knowledge of reproduction and access to public health resources. On one hand, feminist and activist networks are studied as forms of organizing, circulating knowledge and doing historical research; on the other hand, the role of reproductive markets, the commercialization of fertility and the global circulation of reproductive cells in the transformation of contemporary reproductive biology is examined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This international workshop<\/a> aims to bring to the fore new case studies and historiographical reflections on the social status and the epistemological role of activists in the 20th century. We are particularly interested in the influence of Social Movements Studies (SMS) on History of Science, and on the transition between STS and SMS. Analytical concepts such as contentious knowledge and politics, mobilized publics, resistance, protests, repression and counterhegemony, among many others, will be particularly relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precirculated papers will be discussed in person during the workshop for the preparation of a future collective publication. Everybody is very welcome to join us in the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despr\u00e9s d\u2019uns anys voltant per Portugal, el cicle \u00abCi\u00e8ncia, Tecnologia i Medicina a les Places\u00bb torna a Barcelona. Des del 2012, ha estat un espai de trobada d\u2019activistes i acad\u00e8miques amb mirades afins i amb mires a la transformaci\u00f3 social (https:\/\/schct.iec.cat\/ciencia-a-les-places<\/a>; https:\/\/schct.iec.cat\/sisena-sessio<\/a>). S\u2019hi han abordat temes com la transsexualitat, les tecnologies antiimmigraci\u00f3, els transg\u00e8nics, l\u2019energia nuclear o la mineria de l\u2019urani. Les sessions volen servir per a compartir experi\u00e8ncies i entendre com els sabers comunitaris, ve\u00efnals i activistes dialoguen, es tensionen, es nodreixen amb els coneixements experts (inclosos els historiogr\u00e0fics) i s\u00f3n fonamentals per a produir just\u00edcia social (en particular, mobility justice, en termes de Mimi Sheller).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
