Who we are
Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) is a member of the Russell Group of leading research-intensive universities. It has approximately 2500 academic staff and 25000 students (25% of whom are postgraduate) spread across twenty schools. In QUB the School is the primary unit of academic, teaching and resource management, and all schools are required to present balanced excellence between teaching and research. The School of Modern Languages, which houses the postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes in Translation and Interpreting, was recently graded (in the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework of 2014) as being in the top five of all UK modern- languages departments, which means that over 85% of our publications have been assessed in terms of quality as being world-leading or as internationally excellent, and 100% of our research impact has been deemed to be similarly world-leading or as internationally excellent. This is but one element within our quality control procedures. All staff are regularly appraised in terms of objectives and activities, all teaching and research activities are periodically scrutinised by the University, and external expertise is sought annually to moderate and comment upon our standards.
