Research lines

  • Social and economic changes in the neolithization process and in farming societies
  • Husbandry practices in Eurasia
  • Adaptation of farming societies and domestic animals to environmental and climatic changes

In 2015 I started my PhD dissertation at the University of Zaragoza, supervised by Dr. Lourdes Montes (UZ) and Dr. María Saña (UAB). My PhD was entitled “Domestication and first husbandry practices in the central Pyrenees. An approach from archaeozoology and biogeochemistry”. My objectives were to study the first livestock practices in the Pyrenees and the interactions between the last hunter-gatherers and the first farmers. I defended my thesis in January 2020, obtaining the qualification of Cum Laude.

My research has focused on the study of animal husbandry management practices in the first farming societies, evaluating the degree of knowledge of the productive and reproductive possibilities of the domestic populations that they managed, to what extent they adapted them to their needs and the impact that this management had on the animals’ diet and reproduction rithms. To this end, I have integrated archaeozoological analysis with methods such as stable isotope analysis (oxygen, carbon and nitrogen) and dental microwear. The application of these procedures allow to improve our knowledge of the husbandry practices in farming societies.

Since my Master dissertation (2014), I have carried out several archaeozoological studies in different sites of Iberian Peninsula:

  • Abrigo de La Castañera (Cantabria) – Bronze age to Late Neolithic
  • Los Pedregales (Huesca, Aragón) – High Middle Age
  • Cueva de Chaves (Huesca, Aragón) – Early Neolithic
  • Espluga de Puyascada (Huesca, Aragón) – Early Neolithic
  • Abrigo del Esplugón (Huesca, Aragón) – Mesolithic to Early Neolithic
  • Peña 14 (Huesca, Aragón) – Mesolithic
  • Rambla de Legunova (Huesca, Aragón) – Mesolithic to Middle Neolithic
  • Valcervera (Huesca, Aragón) – Mesolithic
  • Legunova (Huesca, Aragón) – Magdalenian to Mesolithic
  • Paco Pons (Huesca, Aragón) – Early Neolithic
  • La Cruceta (Huesca, Aragón) – Late Middle Age
  • Vil·la romana de la Gran Via – Can Ferrerons (Premià de Mar, Catalunya) – Late Roman
  • Coves del Fem (Ulldemolins, Catalunya) – Mesolithic to Early Neolithic
