Presentation of the results of the Commoning Housing project at the International Symposium Diagnose 1968/2018. Critical Perspectives on the Legacy of Reform and Revolt in Architecture, Planning and Urbanism, 13-15 December, Institut of Architecture, la Technische Universität Berlin, organised by Prof. Nina Gribat & Prof. Philipp Misselwitz. The presentation was part of the session titled ‘Housing’, which included presentations by Dr. Jelica Jovanovic (University of Belgrade) on the little known history of tenants self-organisation in Yugoslavian public housing, and by Dr. Alexander Vasudevan (University of Oxford) on the longer legacies of DIY architecture and social movements. Mara presented the paper ‘The long legacy of short-life housing cooperatives’, on the experience of short-life cooperatives in London and the need for a longitudinal approach to the study of models of housing as a commons. The session and following debate was chaired by Prof. Andrej Holm (Berlin, Humboldt Universität) and opened up questions on the wider political legacy of these movements and experiences for contemporary European cities deeply transformed by gentrification and financialisation.
