The 13th Midterm Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA) – Research Network Sociology of the Arts – will take place in three key locations in and around Barcelona:

  • The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), in Bellaterra (Cerdanyola del Vallès)
  • The SGAE Headquarters, in the heart of Barcelona
  • The Fundació Joan Miró, on Montjuïc hill with panoramic city views

These venues bring together academic, cultural and artistic environments, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the conference.

The UAB campus is located approximately 30 km from Barcelona city centre, in a natural area with green spaces and excellent infrastructure. It is well connected by train and road, making it easily accessible for all participants.

Access by the AP7 motorway (from Tarragona/Lleida or Girona/Barcelona) or the C-58 (from Barcelona, Sabadell, Terrassa).

And other accesses to secondary roads that connect the municipalities closest to the UAB campus.  

Please note that the organisation does not provide accommodation or travel grants. However, we recommend booking early, as Barcelona is a very popular destination in early September.

There is one hotel located directly on the UAB Campus, which offers the most convenient access to the main conference venue:

Staying at this hotel facilitates participation in the conference activities held at the UAB.
Please take into account, however, that both the Evening Reception and the Social Dinner will take place in Barcelona city. The last train from central Barcelona to the UAB campus departs around midnight (00:00 h). We encourage you to plan your evenings accordingly if you choose to stay on campus.

Accepted papers will be listed in the conference program and included in the Abstract Book,

📌Please note:

  • At least one author per paper must register.
  • Co-authors who wish to attend must also register.
  • If a presenter is absent, the first author listed under “distributed papers” may be invited to present.
  • The conference organisers do not cover travel or accommodation expenses.
  • We encourage participants to use sustainable transport whenever possible.
  • Weather in Barcelona in early September is usually warm (25–30ºC), so dress comfortably.
