UAB Casa Convalescència
Carrer St. Antoni Maria Claret, 171
Barcelona – SPAIN

Casa Convalescència, a monumental building situated within the Hospital de Santa Creu i Sant Pau complex, was constructed in the Modernista style in the late 19th century to enhance medical services in Barcelona.

Combining the past and the present, Casa Convalescència holds the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and since the late 1960s, it has been an integral part of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), serving as an educational center.

TRANSPORT

By plane

Barcelona’s airport – El Prat de Llobregat, or just “BCN” – is about 15 kilometers outside of the city. There are two Terminals T1 and T2. There are free shuttle buses every 5 minutes between the terminal T1 and the terminal T2.

There are several possibilities for a transfer from the airport to the inner city available:

  • Aerobus (shuttle bus that stops at the centrally located Plaça Espanya and Plaça Catalunya)
  • The buses 46 and N17. They are the cheapest option but not so comfortable: there are no luggage racks and there are many bus stops.
  • By train, opposite the T2-A / B Terminal. Trains run every 30 minutes between the airport and the city centre. From the station you have access to the Metro network in Barcelona.
  • By Metro, the metro line L9 (special ticket) runs from both terminals into the city, where you have to change to a different metro line to reach the inner Barcelona.
  • By taxi, the ranks are well signposted in the airport. You have to expect to pay €30-60, depending on luggage, time and route chosen. All official Barcelona taxis are black and yellow.

By train

The city’s two largest railway stations are Estació de Sants, where all lines stop, including the AVE high-speed train, and Estació de França.

It’s easy to get into the Metro network from these stations.

Approximate times of long distance journeys from European cities to Barcelona are: Paris, 12h; Milan, 21h; Tolouse, 4h; Berlin, 20h; Vienna, 21h; Prague, 19h; Cologne, 14h.

Transport in the city

The city has a transportation network that includes metro, tram, bus, local trains, night buses and other means of transport. Metro and Tram trains go in a very fast pace, so you do not have to worry about timetables.

Tickets for the transportation network can be purchased in ticket machines in metro and local train stations. In the bus you can only buy single tickets from the driver and can be used only to change to other buses. With the single ticket from the metro or train station you can change to tram or bus, you must put the ticket back in the access control or the validator. In addition to the single ticket, there is the 10-card, the so-called “T-casual”.
