Founded in 2025, the research group FEMINTRA (Feminisms, Non-Hegemonic Perspectives and Intersectionality in Translation) aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogues between Translation Studies and Feminist Studies from an intersectional, anti-colonial and queer perspective.

Building on the work carried out since 2018 within the Seminar on Intersectionality, Feminisms and Translation (SIFT), FEMINTRA consolidates and further develops this line of research by documenting and analysing how intersecting gendered power relations –shaped by race, sexuality, disability, ethnicity, class, among others– are produced and negotiated through translation processes. Its anti-colonial and queer gaze critically interrogates dominant epistemic hierarchies and interpretative frameworks that permeate and condition the production and circulation of knowledge, placing particular emphasis on languages and cultures in non-hegemonic contexts.

FEMINTRA understands translation as a situated political practice and positions research as a tool for social transformation and academic activism. Through research and impact-driven projects, awareness-raising initiatives, training activities, dissemination and partnerships with local organisations, stakeholders and key beneficiary groups, FEMINTRA seeks contribute to the production of critical and situated knowledge that supports the advancement of a more inclusive society and, ultimately, global social justice.
