Eva Peguero is a physician specialized in Family and Community Medicine since 2000. Since 2007 she has worked at EAP El Castell (Castelldefels), GAPiC Delta, within the Catalan Health Institute, where she has also served as a tutor for family medicine residents since 2010. She holds a PhD in Medicine with the dissertation “Participatory process for the development of the Ethical Code of the Catalan Health Institute” (2013) and has a Master’s degree in Bioethics and an International Master’s in Bioethics from the Borja Institute of Bioethics at Ramon Llull University (2008 and 2010).
She has been an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine (Bellvitge Campus) of the University of Barcelona since 2014, coordinator of the Family and Community Medicine course since 2019, and a member of the Teaching Committee of the Department of Clinical Sciences since 2020. In 2023 she obtained ANECA accreditation as a contracted doctoral lecturer.
In the field of bioethics, she served as secretary of the commission responsible for drafting the first Ethical Code of the Catalan Health Institute and its subsequent updates. She was a member of the Primary Care Healthcare Ethics Committee of the ICS (2005–2014), serving as its president during the last five years, and participated for two decades in the ethics working group of CAMFiC. She is also a member of the Health Philosophy research group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and participated in the Catalan Commission for Guarantees and Evaluation.
Her research focuses on clinical bioethics, family medicine, and ethical issues related to end-of-life care. Her publications include studies on the Ethical Code of the Catalan Health Institute (BMC Medical Ethics, 2015), the experience of euthanasia in primary care teams (Atención Primaria, 2025), and several works on clinical communication, critical thinking, and ethics in medical practice. She has supervised three doctoral theses and several undergraduate and master’s dissertations on end-of-life ethics and euthanasia.
