Seminar on gender-based violence, space and everyday resistances with Macarena Trujillo Cristoffanini

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Research Group on Geography and Gender at the UAB organized the seminar “Hilvanar: contar, narrar, resistir. Space, emotions and everyday resistances from feminist research”, delivered by Dr. Macarena Trujillo Cristoffanini, PhD in Sociology and faculty member at the Department of Gender, Politics and Culture at the University of Playa Ancha (Chile).

Macarena Trujillo Cristoffanini presented research situated within the field of gender-based violence from a feminist and interdisciplinary perspective. Her presentation placed particular emphasis on the relationships between space, body, emotions and everyday forms of resistance, highlighting the importance of incorporating these dimensions to better understand women’s experiences of violence and their forms of agency.

The seminar focused on several research projects carried out in Chile, through which the speaker introduced innovative visual and participatory methodologies. These included femicide and memory mapping, participatory photography, Relief Maps and collective body mapping, as tools that allow for a situated analysis of experiences of violence and resistance.

In this context, the methodological proposal “Hilvanar” is framed as a feminist approach that articulates images, narratives and lived experiences in order to address gender-based violence through its spatial and emotional dimensions. This perspective foregrounds situated narratives and contributes to making visible forms of everyday resistance that are often overlooked in dominant discourses.

The research presented has also led to an exhibition combining art and research, recently developed in Chile, which illustrates the potential of creative methodologies to produce critical and accessible knowledge.

The seminar generated a rich discussion on the possibilities of visual and participatory feminist methodologies for analyzing gender-based violence, as well as on the importance of linking research, action and artistic expression.
