Full Professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is a biochemist and obtained his doctorate in 1997 from the UAB. He served as the director of the School of Environmental Engineering from 1998 to 2005, director of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona from 2010 to 2013, and vice-director of the School of Engineering at the UAB from 2016 to 2019. Since 2021, he has been the Associate Coordinator of the Environmental Sciences Degree at the UAB.
His research focuses on the valorization of organic solid waste through composting, anaerobic digestion, and solid-state fermentation. He also concentrates his research on the environmental impact assessment of solid waste treatment facilities and the use of nanotechnology for environmental applications: using nanoparticles for wastewater treatment, gas adsorption, and the use of nanomaterials as catalysts.
