Dr Maria Rosa Garrido Sardà is professora lectora in English language and linguistics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Catalonia). Since late 2017 she has served as Book Review and Social Media Editor for the Journal of Sociolinguistics. After completing her PhD in English Linguistics (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2014), Maria Rosa was a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Multilingualism, University of Fribourg (2015 -2017) and Lecturer in English linguistics at the Department of English of the University of Lausanne (2017-2021). She has also been a visiting scholar at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (2020), King’s College London (2012) and the University of Chicago (2011). She is author of the monograph Community, Solidarity and Multilingualism in a Social Movement: A Critical Sociolinguistic Ethnography of Emmaus (Routledge, 2021). She is member of the editorial team of the new project Chroniques du terrain/ Tales from the Field (https://www.chroniquesduterrain.org/). Maria Rosa has published research articles, book chapters and blog posts in English, French and Catalan about her research on language and migration in Catalonia, the pedagogy of multilingualism, language and communication in a social movement, and language policy in a major humanitarian agency.
