Dr Hortènsia Curell is an associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she teaches a variety of courses related to translation, contrastive linguistics and semantics. Her supervision at different levels (B.A., M.A. and PhD) covers a wide range of topics, from the comparison of specific linguistic aspects to the verbal expression of empathy in English and Catalan. Her areas of research include contrastive linguistics (especially English-Catalan), cross-cultural and intercultural pragmatics, second-language acquisition and corpus linguistics. She has published articles on these topics in a variety of journals and books. She has participated in both research projects (the latest on the automatic annotation of factuality) and teaching innovation project, including the creation of a reading app for academic texts (Erasmus+ Key Action 2).
