Mireia Llinàs-Grau is a member of the Department of English and German of the Autonomous University of Barcelona where she teaches English grammar, syntax and language acquisition courses. She holds an MA in Linguistics from University College London. Her PhD (Verbal Sequences: A Generative Approach, 1990), analysed the cohesion of auxiliaries and main verbs in English, Spanish and Catalan. She has also done research on the acquisition of a first language, with a special focus on early word orders not found in the target adult language. In the area of second language acquisition, she has investigated how the phenomenon of complementiser (that) omission is learned.
