Alexander Fidora is ICREA Research Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Executive Director of the Institute of Medieval Studies.
Born in 1975 in Offenbach (Germany), he studied philosophy at the University of Frankfurt and the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona, obtaining his PhD in 2003 at Frankfurt University. He has been a researcher in the Department of Philosophy at Frankfurt University since 1999, where he has been co-director of a research project at the University of Frankfurt, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the SIEPM and president of the Spanish Society of Medieval Philosophy (SOFIME). His research focuses on intercultural and inter-religious aspects of medieval philosophy (see also the ERC-project “Latin into Hebrew”. He has been a visiting professor at Saint Louis University, the Universidad Panamericana (Mexico), the University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Pennsylvania.
In 2011 he was awarded the “Premi Internacional Catalònia“, the highest distinction of the Catalan Academy (Institut d’Estudis Catalans), in 2012 he received the “Samuel Toledano Prize” (Interview on Radio Sefarad).
