Our research aims to uncover the mechanisms that preserve genome integrity during gametogenesis and shape reproductive lifespan. By investigating meiosis, ovarian reserve establishment, and reproductive aging, we seek to better understand the biological basis of infertility and identify new approaches to protect and preserve fertility.

The Roig Lab, led by Professor Ignasi Roig, is based at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB-UAB). Our work focuses on the fundamental processes that govern mammalian gametogenesis, meiotic recombination, genome maintenance, and ovarian aging.

Combining basic and translational research, we explore how germ cells safeguard genetic quality throughout development, how reproductive function declines with age, and how these mechanisms can be targeted to improve reproductive health and fertility outcomes.
