The Mutagenesis Group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona is a European leader in the study of the effects of environmental contaminants on human health, with a particular focus on micro- and nanoplastics.

Our research combines advanced molecular toxicology, innovative experimental models, and studies in human populations to understand how environmental exposure translates into biological damage and disease development. This multidisciplinary approach enables us to generate high-value mechanistic knowledge while also providing evidence applicable to prevention and public health.

With a strong translational vocation, the group actively participates in large-scale European projects and collaborates with international organizations such as the OECD and the EFSA, contributing to the development of evidence-based standards and risk assessment strategies.

In addition, we promote the transfer of knowledge to society through collaborations with clinical institutions and the industrial sector, and we develop innovative solutions, including biomarker-based diagnostic tools and specialized toxicology services.

Our goal is to contribute to better health protection and to promote the transition toward safer materials and environments, connecting excellence in research with a real impact on society.

If you are interested in collaborating with us or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact the group.

The group is officially recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya (2021-SGR-00731).
