Gabriel Abadal received his degree in Physics in 1991 and his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1997, both from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Since 2002, he has been an Associate Professor in the Electronics Engineering Department at UAB, where he currently leads the NANERG LAB. He has worked extensively with Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) operating in air and in electrochemical environments (ESTM), as well as with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). His early research contributed to pioneering studies on the local nano-anodization of silicon surfaces. With more than 30 years of academic experience, he has participated in over 30 national and European research projects, contributed to more than 190 conferences, published over 90 journal papers, and coauthored five patents. His current research focuses on the integration of mechanical M/NEMS and electromagnetic structures to develop a new device concept named MEMSTENNA, aimed at enabling novel electromagnetic-to-mechanical direct transduction strategies and applications.

Marcel Placidi received the M.S. degree in electronics from the Université de Montpellier 2, France, in 2006, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, in 2010. His doctoral and postdoctoral research at the Centre Nacional de Microelectrònica, Barcelona, involved the study of wide bandgap semiconductors, Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN), for MEMS and transistors applications. His research interests include the design and integration of electrostatic or piezoelectric MEMS using Si, SiC or GaN, especially for energy harvesting. He has currently a staff scientist permanent position at Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya IREC.

Gonzalo Murillo received his Electronic Engineering Degree from the Universidad de Granada (Spain) in 2007 and his PhD in Electronic Engineering from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in 2011. The title of his thesis supervised by G. Abadal was “Integration of resonant N/MEMS for energy harvesting from ambient vibrations”. His research interest was focused on the design of vibrational energy harvesters with electrostatic and piezoelectric transductions and their integration using standard CMOS and specific MEMS technologies. He currently holds a position of Research Scientist at IMB-CNM-CSIC and is founder of the spinoff Energiot.

Jordi Agustí received his bachelor degree in Telecommunications in 2007, his Electronic Engineering degree in 2009 and his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 2014 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The title of his thesis supervised by G. Abadal was “Nonlinear micro/nano-optomechanical oscillators for energy transduction from IR sources”. His research interests included design, characterization and integration of micro and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS), especially to harvest energy from NIR electromagnetic radiation. He is currently engineer at the company Lear.

Miquel López-Suárez received his degree in Physics in 2010 and his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 2014 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The title of his thesis co-supervised by G. Abadal with R. Rurali (ICMAB-CSIC) was “Non-linear Nanoelectromechanical Systems for Energy Harvesting”. His research was focused on non-linear energy harvesting from noise sources. He has currently a researcher position at the company Ideaded.

Óscar Gilberto Súchil Pérez received his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 2017 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The title of his thesis co-supervised by G. Abadal with F. Torres was “Synthesis and characterization of ZnO finewires for the conceptual design of a mechanical battery”. He is currently R&D Manager at TECFLUID S.A.

Raul Ruiz Lobato received his Electronic Engineering degree in 2000 and his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 2025 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The title of his thesis supervised by G. Abadal was “Direct transduction from electromagnetic to mechanical domain”. He currently works as microelectronic design engineer at Analog Devices.

Daniyal Khoshmaram received his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 2025 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The title of his thesis co-supervised by G. Abadal with X.
