What is PHYNEST?
PHYNEST is a Horizon Europe MSCA-COFUND doctoral programme coordinated by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). It supports 25 PhD researchers working on physics, materials science and sustainable energy solutions.
Who coordinates the programme?
The UAB coordinates PHYNEST with the collaboration of five implementing partners and more than 30 associated partners from academia, industry and the public sector.

How long does the fellowship last?
Each fellowship offers a 48-month full-time contract (37.5 hours per week).
What does the programme offer?
Fellows receive a €2,575/month gross salary, access to state-of-the-art facilities, international secondments, and a comprehensive training programme that integrates scientific and transferable skills.

Who can apply?
Researchers of any nationality or background can apply, provided they meet the mobility and experience rules.

What is the mobility rule?
Applicants must not have lived or worked in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months before 28 February 2026.
What is the experience rule?
Applicants must not hold a doctoral degree by the call deadline. Candidates who have defended but not yet received their PhD are also ineligible.

How can I apply?
Applications must be submitted through the PHYNEST online platform in English, following the instructions in the Guidelines for Applicants.
What are the main evaluation criteria?
Academic record, research experience, motivation, recommendation letters, and interview performance.

When are results announced?
Final results are expected in September 2026.
Can I appeal the decision?
Yes. Candidates may submit a redress request within 7 days after notification, using the official template.

Will I be enrolled in a PhD programme?
Yes, all fellows must enrol in a UAB doctoral programme upon appointment.
What level of English is required?
Minimum B2 (CEFR) or equivalent (TOEFL 72, IELTS 5–6.5, or PTE Level 3). Candidates with degrees fully taught in English are exempt if they provide official proof.
