The Fermentation Pilot Plant of UAB is a scientific-technical infrastructure specializing in the development, optimization, and scaling up of bioprocesses with microorganisms and cell cultures. With more than 25 years of experience, it provides support to research groups and companies across all stages of the process, from laboratory scale to pilot scale.

The facility features over 150 m² of specialized space, equipped with bioreactors up to 250 L, downstream processing equipment for product recovery and purification, an analytical laboratory, and molecular biology tools. Its services include bioprocess development and scale-up, pilot-scale production, scientific-technological advisory, and specialized training, thereby contributing to technology transfer and innovation in the field of biotechnology.

The UAB Fermentation Pilot Plant is part of the Industrial Biotechnology and Fermentation Pilot Plant Platform (ENG4BIO-PBI&PPF), an entity accredited with the TECNIO seal. This accreditation is awarded by the Government of Catalonia through ACCIÓ to identify and raise visibility for technology developers within Catalonia’s R&D&I system who demonstrate differential technological capabilities and the ability to transfer them, aiming to strengthen the business sector and make the Catalan innovation ecosystem internationally attractive.
