The main objective of Thal-IA (CNS2023-145014) is to reconsider the traditional conception of the creation of Spanish Golden Age drama and to propose a new model based on textual evidence.

The working hypothesis explores a previously unexamined possibility: that collaboration may have existed between playwrights and other agents within the theatrical system.

If this were the case, the production process of a play would not be limited to the author’s individual will, but rather would be the result of collaborative work involving several individuals who, alongside the author, would discuss and modify the content in order to produce the final version of the play. In order to test this hypothesis, it is essential to work with a corpus of authorized and reliable texts: autograph manuscripts.

Project aims:

  1. To create a reliable and comprehensive corpus of autograph manuscripts from the Golden Age of Spanish theatre
  2. To analyse the manuscripts philologically
  3. To apply spectral photography analysis to the manuscripts
  4. To study and systematise the results in order to validate or refute the initial hypotheses
