Contributions of the Geography of Services: Sustainability, Equity and Care

Our society is faced with shocking problems such as environmental deterioration and climate crises, growing socio-territorial and demographic inequalities, technological disruption and the data revolution, or ideological polarization and geopolitical and economic reconfiguration, which generate both hope and fear. In this context, the Geography of Servicies investigates the locations, dynamics, flows, and accessibility to services in different spaces and territories, playing a double role: interpretation of territorial processes and desig and planning of the territory to reach more equitable and sustainable solutions.

Among the challenges that arise, there is the need to respond to new demands and sociodemographic realities to improve the quality of life of the population; therefore, Geography incorporates new concepts in its analysis, such as responsible and sustainable consumption or care services. At the same time, research must be approached from the ethical commitment and explicit position of the researcher, as well as incorporating the knowledge and needs of the affected communities and groups co-creating knowledge together.

The congress aims to share the advances of research in this field and present case studies in different environments and territorial scales. The meeting is organized based on three thematic axes of the Geography of Services that articulate the contributions:
