Jaume Valentines-Álvarez és professor agregat a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona des del 2022, any en el que va tornar d’una estada de nou anys a Lisboa com a investigador post-doc i investigador contractat. Ha fet estades de recerca més curtes a Mèxic, Londres, Granada, Berlín i Ginebra. Historiador de la tecnologia contemporània de la Península Ibèrica, el denominador comú dels seus dispars temes d’estudi i enfocaments interdisciplinaris és entendre com l’autoritat política i l’autoritat experta es fonen, grinyolen i es resisteixen. Entre aquests temes, trobem les relacions íntimes entre tecnocràcia i nacionalisme en temps de crisis, la política dels artefactes en temps de revolució, la diversió com a antídot a la ignorància, o la construcció comunitària de tecnologies alternatives. L’interessa experimentar maneres de narrar el passat per a imaginar futurs paisatges tecnològics menys autoritaris i més autogestionats. Des de 2012, organitza les trobades entre acadèmics, activistes i comunitats locals “Ciència, tecnologia i medicina a les places”.
Marco Armiero
ICREA Research Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB-iHC).
Since 2019 I am the president of the European Society for Environmental History, a recognition of my work in that field. Although rooted in that discipline, I have developed a transdisciplinary research agenda blending environmental history with political ecology and environmental humanities. In 2013 I became the director of the Environmental Humanities Laboratory in Stockholm making it a global player in that emerging field.
My research clusters around three themes: environmental justice; migrations and the environment; and fascism and nature. Methodologically, I avoid any dichotomy between nature and society. Thematically, from toxicity to fascism, from migration to mountain communities, my research focuses on processes of expropriations and imposition of expert knowledge and the resistance of subaltern communities.
I am interested in directing Ph.D. and postdoctoral research in the following areas:
migration and environment (migrant workers, transformations of landscape, transfer of knowledge and practices, etc.)
fascist regimes and nature (politicization of nature, autarkic policies,
environmental justice and conflicts (toxicity, pollution, social inequalities, mobilizations, etc.)
history of environmentalism (especially subaltern environmentalism)
disasters
nature on trial (judicial environmental cases)
I teach courses on environmental history, political ecology, and environmental humanities.

Agustí Nieto-Galan
1. Woodstockholm
A project in collaboration with Dr Santiago Gorostiza, University of Lund (Sweden)
The UN Conference on the Human Environment, which took held in Stockholm, 5-16 June 1972, gathered official delegates from more than hundred countries, but also a good number of environmentalists and other activist groups: conservationists, scientists, social critics, and environmental publicists – and so far, several thousand freelance environmental enthusiasts. In a global, multilayered urban public sphere, the city of Stockholm witnessed alternative conferences, exhibitions, teach-ins and assorted happenings and demonstrations, which left its mark in numerous environmental activist groups elsewhere and deserve further historical investigation.
2. Chemists as Activists
We aim to approach activist-chemists as epistemologically active actors and their role in the co-production of chemical knowledge. From the Cold War to the present, we want to explore exchange zones and public spheres in which chemists struggled for public recognition and scientific authority and opposed hegemonic chemical projects and practices of their time.
Instead of assuming that resistance contributes to the failure of a chemical project, it may become a constructive force in technological development. Civic, citizen,
democratic, green chemistry could be therefore related to alternative pathways of doing science that deserve further historical investigation. The project will address the following questions:
1. How can we describe the civic role of chemists?
2. What is the epistemological load of activism? To what extend political positions did shape chemical knowledge, in our cases? Is there a place for an “alternative” chemistry?
3. To what extend activism provides a stronger epistemology, which looks at places, objects and events that would be invisible in a more traditional approach to elite, hegemonic accounts?
4. Beyond great luminaries such as Pauling or Carson, what kind of new actors and voices can we recover, once analysed through the filter of activism?
Jaume Sastre-Juan
Jaume Sastre-Juan. Profesor Serra Húnter en el Departamento de Filosofía e investigador en el Institut d’Història de la Ciència (UAB). Coordina el Máster Interuniversitario en Historia de la Ciencia: Ciencia, Historia y Sociedad. Está preparando, junto a Jaume Valentines-Álvarez, la edición el libro colectivo La cultura científica de la Transición: Museos, ciencia y política en la Barcelona preolímpica (Bellaterra Edicions), que presenta los resultados del proyecto MUSAUPOL, del que ha sido co-IP; y está co-editando, junto a Andrée Bergeron y Agustí Nieto-Galan, el volumen colectivo Science Popularization as Cultural Diplomacy in Cold War UNESCO, 1946-1958 (Amsterdam University Press). Sus intereses de investigación giran alrededor de la historia política de la divulgación científica, así como de la historia y la filosofía de la tecnología.
Andrea Álvarez Laorden
Sóc estudiant del programa de doctorat de l’Institut d’Història de la Ciència (iHC-UAB) i membre del projecte CLIMASAT “Remote-sensing satellite data and the making of global climate in Europe 1980-2000″ dirigit per la Dra. Gemma Cirac-Claveras.
Concretament, el meu projecte d’investigació parteix del fet que, malgrat els satèl·lits d’observació de la Terra tenen capacitat per monitoritzar tot el planeta, les infraestructures i recursos necessaris per fer-ho no són accessibles arreu del globus.
Abans de començar el doctorat vaig fer un màster en Història de la Ciència i un grau de Física, ambdós a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Els meus interessos inclouen la història de la tecnologia en interrelació amb la història ambiental, la història del pensament ecològic, les experteses i resistències en la construcció de la ciència i la tecnologia, així com la relació entre ciència i gènere.
Max Bautista Perpinyà
Max Bautista-Perpinyà is a PhD student in the philosophy of science at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium. I work on the history of ecology and the environmentalist movement in Spain between 1972 and 2007. I study three communities who work on issues related to environmental issues in Mediterranean forests: forest engineers, terrestrial ecologists, and grassroots activists, and their developments since late Francoism up until the turn of the century. I think a lot about their “contact zones” –the tensions, animosities, collaborations, mutual understandings– and the historical move towards an eventual *convergence* between them. This ‘convergence’ centres around a consensus for the need of a sober management of nature and a refusal to speak about the capitalogenic character of ecological catastrophes. ‘Progress’ becomes defined as better legislation; useful science is that which is able to generate data and tools for management; and any class struggle within the environmentalist movement or within the university becomes invisibilised. I am interested in the relationship between science and politics, and of how different actors articulate science for environmentalist objectives, through different strategies and coming from diverging political cultures. I am interested in the entanglements between scientists’ search for useful and objective science, their life histories, processes of experimentation, data-making, and expressions of nationalism. I employ written archives and oral histories, with a mixed approach from cultural history of science, historical and normative epistemology, and environmental history
Miquel Carandell Baruzzi
Sóc llicenciat en Biologia per la Universitat de Girona (2005) i màster (2010) i doctor en Història de la Ciència per la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2015) amb una tesi dirigida per Oliver Hochadel sobre la controvèrsia de l’Home d’Orce. El resultat de la tesi ha estat publicat en anglès per l’editorial Brill en el llibre Orce Man. Controversy, Media and Politics in Human Origins Research (2020). A més de la història de la paleoantropologia i la relació entre ciència, política i mitjans de comunicació, m’he interessat per la història de la ciència a la ciutat de Barcelona sobre la que ha publicat el llibre Barcelona, ciència i coneixement (2017) amb Albertí Editors. En aquest sentit, l’any 2015 vaig crear Històries de Ciència , des d’on s’ofereixen rutes científiques i culturals per Barcelona, dirigides tant a públic en general com a estudiants i associacions. També m’he interessat per la història de les ciències naturals, i en concret la història del Parc Zoològic de Barcelona, sobre la que he publicat el llibre De les Gàbies als Espais Oberts. Història i Futur del Zoo de Barcelona (2018) amb l’editorial Alpina. Sobre totes aquestes temàtiques he participat en nombrosos congressos nacionals i internacionals, he estat convidat a donar xerrades en ambients acadèmics i populars, he publicat nombrosos articles científics, divulgatius i ressenyes de llibres, i vaig fer una estada de recerca durant el doctorat al History and Philosophy of Science Department de la University of Cambridge (2013-2014) gràcies a una Research Grant de la Bristish Society for the History of Science. Vaig treballar a la web de divulgació científica de la UAB, UAB Divulga (2012-2013), vaig guanyar la Historical Archives Felloship de la Wenner-Gren Foundation (2015) per treballar l’arxiu personal de Josep Gibert i Clols, principal protagonista de la controvèrsia d’Orce; la Beca de Recerca de L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (2016) per un treball sobre la salut pública en aquesta població; el Premi Uriach d’Història de la Medicina (2017) per un article sobre els escombriaires de l’Hospitalet; i la Beca Montserrat Roig Barcelona Ciutat de la Literatura (2018) per un projecte de llibre sobre “el taxidermista de la plaça Reial”. Vaig classificar l’arxiu personal d’Antoni Jonch i Cuspinera (2019) i actualment sóc professor Lector Serra-Húnter a la UAB.
Roger Fernàndez i Tudela
Sóc graduat en Antropologia Social i Cultural per la Universitat de Barcelona (2022) i màster en Història de la Ciència per la Universitat autònoma (2023). Els meus interessos giren sobretot al voltant de la història de la tecnologia i el concepte del temps des d’una perspectiva materialista. Així, amb el doctor Jaume Valentines Álvarez vaig dur a terme el treball final de Màster sobre la gestió de la mobilitat urbana de Barcelona en el període revolucionari de la rereguarda de la Guerra Civil. Ara però, intento compaginar la feina de llibreter amb desenvolupar un projecte d’investigació al voltant d’aquests temes amb la direcció del doctor Jaume Sastre Juan. Participo activament de l’anarcosindicalisme i altres espais llibertaris des recomposar una política de classe capaç de respondre als reptes actuals.
Judit Gil-Farrero
Judit Gil-Farrero is Associate Lecturer in History of Science at the Universidad de Zaragoza. She is also editor of Sabers en acció (Knowledge(s) in Action), a periodic publication on digital humanities devoted to historical and social studies on science, technology, medicine and the environment (since 2020).
PhD in History of Science (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB), she has a Master’s Degree in History of Science: Science, History and Society (UAB) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences (UAB). Her research topics focus on the analysis, from an interdisciplinary perspective, of environmental conflicts and the strategies followed to hide or make them visible, the environmental impacts of public policies related to the natural environment, the role of experts in environmental conflicts, the processes of protection of natural areas and the perception of nature and landscape. Since 2024, she is editorial secretary of the journal Historia Agraria.
Miquel Carandell Baruzzi
Inês Gomes holds a PhD in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Lisbon, awarded in 2015. The focus of her doctoral dissertation was the examination of material culture, scientific instruments, and collections. Specifically, she investigated the origins and evolution of natural history collections in Portuguese secondary schools, employing a range of methodological approaches from the history of science, history of education, history of collections, and scientific heritage studies. Her work employed the analysis of material culture as a means of gaining deeper insights into the practices of science and pedagogy. In 2016, she joined the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) on a research project addressing the impact of invasive species in southern Europe, thereby extending her research interests into the field of environmental history. This involved a combination of her expertise in biology, georesources, and the history and philosophy of science. From 2017 to 2019, she held the position of postdoctoral researcher at the Interuniversity Center for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT). In this role, she integrated perspectives from the history of science, environmental history, urban history, and animal history into her research. Since June 2019, she has been engaged in a collaborative research project, the ReSEED Project (Rescuing Seed’s Heritage: Engaging in a New Framework of Agriculture and Innovation since the 18th Century), funded by the European Research Council. Her current research interests align with a recent historiographical trend that emphasises the need for interdisciplinary studies between cultural heritage, history, and natural sciences to support effective conservation policies. Inês Gomes is a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History, NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability, and Territory (IN2PAST).
Santiago Gorostiza
Santiago Gorostiza is an environmental historian working at the intersection of political ecology and the history of science. Since 2019, he has served as the Spanish representative to the European Society of Environmental History.
The Spanish Civil War and postwar have been the key focus of his research, with special attention to anarchist collectivisations of water and land, on the one hand, and the autarkic projects of the Franco dictatorship, on the other. He continues investigating the fortification of the Pyrenean border and guerrilla warfare in postwar Spain.
The production of knowledge about climate and the environment is a more recent research interest. Santiago has studied responses to drought during the 17th century, including the writing of a manuscript on urban water supply for the city of Barcelona, known as Llibre de les Fonts (1650). Other examples include scientific and political debates about river sediment transport since the 19th century or controversies about the relation between potash mining and river salinisation from the 1920s to the present day.
Santiago completed his PhD at the Centro de Estudos Sociais of the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal) as a Marie Curie ITN fellow. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) and at the Centre for History at Sciences Po (Paris), where he was part of the Shifting Shores project and remains an affiliated researcher. At the Institut d’Història de la Ciència, Santiago works on the ERC-funded project “CLIMASAT: Remote-sensing Satellite Data and the Making of Global Climate in Europe, 1980s-2000s”.
Carolina Granado Torres
Sóc estudiant del programa de doctorat de l’Institut d’Història de la Ciència (iHC-UAB) amb una beca del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. La meva tesi “Entre la ciència i la política: el paper dels experts en els orígens de les negociacions internacionals sobre el canvi climàtic (1979-1992)” està dirigida pel professor Agustí Nieto-Galan.
A la meva recerca, estudio com el clima es va convertir en un tema científic, polític i diplomàtic a finals de la dècada de 1970, quan es van dur a terme les primeres conferències internacionals sobre el canvi climàtic. A més de comparar els diferents models d’avaluació científica coexistents en aquesta dècada, poso en context la creació de l’Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) com a principal institució assessora per a les pròximes dècades.
Abans de començar el meu doctorat, vaig fer un màster en Història i Filosofia de la Ciència a la Université de París (París VII, Diderot) i una llicenciatura en Física i Matemàtiques a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
Els meus interessos inclouen la història de la climatologia, la història del pensament ecològic, les relacions entre científics, experts i política, ciència i diplomàcia, història ambiental i ciència i gènere.
Laia Iturrizaga Zurita
Sóc estudiant del programa de doctorat de l’Institut d’Història de la Ciència (iHC-UAB) amb una beca del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, dins del projecte EXCHANGEACTIV “Zonas de intercambio de resistencias epistémicas y alternativas en la innovación: Activistas, movimientos populares y expertos, 1970s-1990s” dirigit pel professor Jaume Valentines-Álvarez.
La meva tesi investiga les xarxes d’avortament clandestí organitzades pel moviment feminista català durant els anys 70 i 80 a Barcelona, així com la producció i circulació de coneixement sobre salut sexual i reproductiva que les acompanyaven.
Abans de començar el doctorat vaig estudiar el Màster en Història de la Ciència (UAB-UB-UPF), en què vaig escriure el treball de final de màster titulat “«Les dones parim, les dones decidim»: Xarxes d’avortament clandestí a Barcelona, 1976-1985”, que ha estat guardonat amb els premis als TFMs de la SCHCT i de la Societat Espanyola d’Història de la Medicina. Prèviament, vaig estudiar el Grau en Química i el Màster de Formació del Professorat, que em van permetre treballar de professora de ciències a secundària.
Els meus interessos inclouen la història dels avortaments, la sexualitat i la reproducció, les epistemologies de la ignorància i la resistència i els processos de producció i circulació de coneixement des dels moviments socials. Paral·lelament a la meva recerca, soc militant d’organitzacions feministes i anticapitalistes.
Eva Jove Casabella
Eva Jove va realitzar una tesi doctoral sobre el públic als museus que porta per títol “L’impacte social dels museus. El cas de les associacions d’amics dels museus“, dirigida pel Dr. Gabriel Alcalde (UdG) i pel Dr. Xavier Roigé (UB). Ha dut a terme recerques sobre públics de museus a diferents institucions museístiques de Catalunya, Madrid i Dinamarca.
Els seus principals interessos són els públics dels museus, els impactes dels museus, el binomi noves tecnologies i patrimoni i el patrimoni cultural accessible per a tothom, amb perspectiva de gènere. Fruit d’això va comissariar les exposicions accessibles INFRA_lines i souLs. A més, va desenvolupar una aplicació per mòbils per visitar jaciments arqueològics d’exterior i un algoritme de recompte de freqüència de conceptes.
Ha publicat articles de divulgació sobre Modernisme a la província de Barcelona, ha excavat en jaciments arqueològics de diverses èpoques (també d’Arqueologia Subaquàtica) i ha col·laborat en diferents projectes de recerca catalans i europeus. Ha realitzat estades de recerca al Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Madrid) i al Museu Nacional de Dinamarca (Nationalmuseet-Copenhaguen) i ha visitat universitats amb beques Erasmus Staff Mobility com la Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca i la Université du Luxembourg.
És sòcia de diferents associacions d’estudis i des del 2022 és la directora de la Secció d’Art del Consell d’Estudis del Patronat d’Estudis Osonencs.
En relació a la seva tasca de gestió, ha realitzat suport docent de Màster, Doctorat i assessorament pre-award de projectes de recerca a la Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) i a la UAB, a més de difusió i comunicació d’activitats científiques.
Ana Macaya Andrés
Ana Macaya-Andrés, és llicenciada en Química i en estudis de Máster Oficial en Història, Ciència i Societat per la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Els seus interessos giren al voltant dels processos de construcció de coneixement científic durant la Transició des de les perspectives de gènere i de les provinents dels moviments socials. Actualment, compagina la docència universitària amb la secundària generant noves formes d’abordar la perspectiva de gènere en ciència als instituts. També participa de col·lectius per la lluita de la llibertat sexual i de gènere des de la gestió col·lectiva.
Anyely Marín Cisneros
Investigo en l’àmbit de les polítiques del cos i la seva vinculació amb les lògiques racials de la ciència. Vaig estudiar Lletres a la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Tinc un màster en Teoria Crítica i Estudis Museístics i un màster en Història de la Ciència. Sóc estudiant del programa de doctorat de l’Institut d’Història de la Ciència de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona [directors de tesi: Fernando Vidal (ICREA) i Carlos López-Beltrán (UNAM)]
Des 2014 codinamitzo el col·lectiu de recerca @criticaldias (Premi Miquel Casablancas, 2017), i m’he enfocat en la dinamització de tallers i espais de discussió sobre metodologies decoloniales i feminismes negres. Des 2018 col·laboro amb el Programa Barcelona Interculturalitat de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona com a formadora. He participat en diversos projectes de curadoria, comissariat i investigació independent, activitat que em va vincular com Fellow 2018-2019 a l’Center of Arts, Design and Social Research.
Actualment sóc professora associada a el Departament de Filosofia i imparteixo docència en el seminari d’Història, gènere i medicina de la Facultat de Medicina.
Luisa Coelho Sousa
M. Luísa Sousa is a researcher of the Interuniversitary Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT) and an assistant professor of the Department of Applied Social Sciences of the NOVA School of Sciences and Technology (NOVA University of Lisbon) (NOVA FCT). Her double PhD in History, Philosophy and Heritage of Science and Technology and in Cultural History (NOVA FCT and U. Sorbonne Nouvelle, 2013) was awarded a special mention of the 2017 DHST Prize for Young Scholars (International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology). Her work was recognised by other distinctions, such as being selected as one of the 2022 Early Career Scholar Plenary Lecturer by the European Society for the History of Science.
She coordinated the exploratory research project Hi-BicLab – History Lab for Sustainable Urban Mobilities: Lisbon’s cycling policies (2022-2024) (financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; EXPL/FER-HFC/0847/2021), of which the Cycling Cities: the Lisbon Experience (2025) is one of the outputs. She has participated in other research projects, published and presented papers at the intersection of history of technology, mobility, urban and colonial history, and is part of research networks and associations such as SHOT, ESHS, T2M, ICOHTEC, Tensions of Europe, STEP , and APHES, having served at different committees. She has also done editorial work, namely as Chief Editor of HoST – Journal of History of Science and Technology, 2017-20; and co-editor of the Vol. 4 of Ciência, Tecnologia e Medicina na Construção de Portugal. Inovação e contestação, século XX, CIUHCT, 2021).
