From July 1 to 4, 2025, the 12th International Conference on Industrial Ecology was held at the National University of Singapore, bringing together researchers, engineers, and policymakers from around the world to share knowledge in the field of industrial ecology.

Juan David Arosemena and Guido Evangelista participated by presenting the results of their respective studies through two scientific posters, and Gara Villalba chaired a session in memory of Bob Ayres:

 

  • Juan David Arosemena presented the poster entitled “Regenerating and enriching peri-urban agricultural soil through carbon and nutrient circularity: Life cycle environmental benefits and trade-offs”, aiming to evaluate how cities can benefit from the use of ramial chipped wood (RCW) to regenerate and fertilize peri-urban agricultural soils compared to other organic residues.

  • Guido Evangelista presented the poster entitled “From Waste to Value: Yield and Environmental Benefits of Pruning Waste Incorporation in Peri-Urban Agriculture”, aiming to assess the effects of ramial chipped wood application on sweet potato yield, emissions of CO₂, N₂O, and NH₃, and overall soil enrichment.

  • Gara Villalba chaired the session “In memory of Bob Ayres- scientific contributions in the intersection of technology, physics, economy, and sustainability”. The presentations are about Bob’s favorite subjects: exergy and economics, life cycle assessmentof remanufacturing and recycling; Exergy analysis of industrial processes; low-carbon energy transitions; and the relationship between environmental sustainability and system complexity:

De l’1 al 4 de juliol de 2025 es va celebrar la 12a Conferència Internacional d’Ecologia Industrial a la Universitat Nacional de Singapur, reunint investigadors, enginyers i responsables polítics d’arreu del món per compartir coneixement en l’àmbit de l’ecologia industrial.

Juan David Arosemena i Guido Evangelista hi van participar presentant els resultats dels seus respectius estudis mitjançant dos pòsters científics:

 

  • Juan David Arosemena va presentar el pòster titulat “Regenerating and enriching peri-urban agricultural soil through carbon and nutrient circularity: Life cycle environmental benefits and trade-offs”, amb l’objectiu d’avaluar com les ciutats poden beneficiar-se de l’ús d’estelles de fusta (RCW) per regenerar i fertilitzar els sòls agrícoles periurbans, en comparació amb altres residus orgànics.

  • Guido Evangelista va presentar el pòster titulat “From Waste to Value: Yield and Environmental Benefits of Pruning Waste Incorporation in Peri-Urban Agriculture”, amb l’objectiu d’estudiar els efectes de l’aplicació d’estelles de fusta en el rendiment de la patata dolça, les emissions de CO₂, N₂O i NH₃, així com l’enriquiment del sòl.

  • Gara Villalba va presidir la sessió “In memory of Bob Ayres – scientific contributions in the intersection of technology, physics, economy, and sustainability”. Les presentacions tractaven sobre els temes preferits d’en Bob: l’exergia i l’economia, l’anàlisi del cicle de vida de la remanufactura i el reciclatge, l’anàlisi exergètic dels processos industrials, les transicions energètiques cap a baixes emissions de carboni, i la relació entre la sostenibilitat ambiental i la complexitat dels sistemes.
