From September 15 to 18, Vanessa Monteiro attended the ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System) Science Conference 2026 in Lund, Sweden, where she presented her work titled “Characterizing anthropogenic emissions through continuous atmospheric CO2 observations in Barcelona.”

Centering on the theme “Science, Data, Services: Together for Climate Action,” this year’s conference brought together over 530 in-person participants, more than 80 online attendees, and 490+ presentations.

Vanessa’s research closely aligns with the event’s central theme, highlighting how atmospheric data collected in Barcelona is actively being translated into actionable climate services. Specifically, she showcased her work with the ICOS Cities Data Portal community in developing open-access Jupyter Notebooks, which enable other municipalities to analyze and understand their own in-situ carbon dioxide observations.

Additionally, Vanessa co-authored three research papers presented during the conference, drawing on her prior work in New Zealand. These findings reinforce the importance of international, multi-city research efforts to mitigate urban climate impacts.
