On 10-11 June 2026, ATRAPA and GEMOTT researchers participated in the two-day UBDPolicy Workshop, “How to Make Impact: From Science to Practice – Bridging the Gap Between Research and Real-World Action to Create Healthier, More Sustainable Cities,” held in Barcelona. The event was organised by Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the UBDPolicy project.
The workshop brought together researchers, policymakers, city representatives, public health professionals, NGOs, and community organisations to explore how scientific evidence can be translated into policy and real-world action.
During the workshop, Oriol Marquet presented findings from the ATRAPA project based on the Barcelona case study. His presentation, “Public Acceptability and the Politics of Healthier Urban Mobility. How to Make Impact: From Science to Practice”, explored public support, opposition, and backlash surrounding urban mobility policies, highlighting how perceived resistance can sometimes discourage policy action despite substantial underlying public support.
The discussions aligned closely with ATRAPA’s interest in understanding the social and political dynamics shaping active mobility policies and their implementation.
The workshop provided a very interesting opportunity to disseminate ATRAPA research beyond academia, engage with policymakers and practitioners, and exchange perspectives on how evidence can better inform urban mobility and public health decision-making.
