In this Video Camera on Twitter Twemoji 12.1 we explain what CompREd is; or, if you prefer, you can read the text below!

What is CompREd?

CompREd is a digital, open and free repository with resources, tools, instruments, etc. about how to do research in educational sciences. The purpose of this repository is to offer to all members of the university community (undergraduate students, master’s and doctorate students, new researchers, junior and senior, higher education teachers and anyone who is interested in research in education) an informal learning environment to connect, exchange, disseminate and discuss how to do research in education. CompREd is a Competitive Innovation Project of the Faculty of Educational Sciences (awarded in October 30th, 2018).

What can I find?

The repository includes resources and materials in various formats (open access or authorized by the authors), focused on developing competency in research in education. Also, the repository includes a section called ‘Give us feedback‘, where we seek to know the profile of the person who visits the repository; another section called ‘Forum of doubts’ where you can share any concerns or difficulties that you encounter in the research process, and request help to understand or carry out a research process, generating a fluent learning community; and a section called ‘Send Us Resources‘, where you can contribute with your own resources or others that you have found to be very useful. The respository’s menu is in Catalan but the resources you will find are in Catalan, Spanish or English, depending on the language that were created. You must click on the icone of the resource you’re interested in to access it.

How it is structured?

The resources of the repository are organized into 6 main dimensions and 14 subdimensions, which respond to the logic of a research process:

  • Research planning
  • Theoretical foundation
  • Design and application
  • Discussion and Conclusions
  • References
  • Comunication and ICT

How can I know the quality of the resources?

The resources of this repository have been evaluated and selected by a commission of experts in research in education, which have considered them as appropiate for this learning platform. During this process, the comission established a label system in order to ensure that the resources cover the different levels of development of the research skills.

Are there resources for everybody?

CompREd labels classify and organize the reources of the repository into three levels of skills:

  • Basic level (enlightened): meant to be for undergraduate students and all those who are just starting to do research
  • Intermediate level (enlightenedenlightened): designed for master students and junior researchers
  • Advanced level (enlightenedenlightenedenlightened): thought for PhD students and consolidated researchers.

In which context is this project placed?

CompREd project is placed in two European competence frameworks.

On the one hand, research competence can be found in ‘Vitae Researcher Development Framework’ (UK), under the domain A-Knowledge and intellectual abilities, specifically Knowledge base (A1) which includes: research methods (theoretical and practical knowledge), information seeking, information literacy and management, languages in academic literacy and numeracy, among other transversal competences.

On the other hand, technological competence is also developed within the European Commission ‘The Digital Competence Framework 2.0’, from which we work on the competences: information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, and digital content creation.
