Irene Gómez Franco is a full-time Professor of Philosophy at the University of Girona, associated Professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and Visiting Researcher since 2010 at the Institute of Philosophy of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She is a member of the Ethics and Biosafety Research Committee of the University of Girona.
She obtained her PhD. summa cum laude from the Technische Universität Berlin and the UNED and was Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and at the Grande École European Business School in Paris (INSEEC). She was also a Visiting Researcher at the Universität Potsdam (Germany), a Marie Curie WORLDBRIDGES Postdoctoral Fellow and a Visiting Professor at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. During her PhD studies she was a Marie Curie Fellow in the ENGLOBE project with a research stay at the University of Chicago.
She belongs to the research group “Mussol” (philosophy for contemporary challenges, UOC), to GEHUCT (Group of Humanistic Studies on Science and Technology, UAB) and to the competitive projects “DESTERRA: Los sótanos de la desinformación” (UCM), and “INconRES: Incertidumbre, confianza y responsabilidad. Ethical-epistemological keys to the new social dynamics (in the digital era)” of the CSIC.
Her publications show a commitment to understanding philosophy as a critical exercise turned to practice and develop her line of research around issues related to theories of intergenerational justice, bioethics, the capabilities approach, climate ethics and feminist philosophy. She has published in international journals and is the author of the book Deudas pendientes. La justicia entre generaciones, CSIC – Plaza y Valdés editores (2020).
