SEAPeople Lab is pleased to announce the successful kick-off meeting of the national research project Generación Azul: Towards Sustainable Fisheries in the Context of the Blue Economy. Socio-labour Challenges of Mediterranean Fisheries.
The project brings together an interdisciplinary team to explore how the transition towards a sustainable Blue Economy is reshaping the future of Mediterranean fisheries. Particular attention will be given to the socio-economic and labour challenges faced by fishing communities, including generational renewal, changing working conditions, governance, and the adaptation of coastal livelihoods to environmental and policy transformations.
During the meeting, held in Reus on 18 September 2026, project partners discussed the main research objectives, methodological approaches, work plan, and opportunities for collaboration. The project aims to generate knowledge that contributes to both the sustainability of fisheries and the well-being of the people and communities that depend on them.
At SEAPeople Lab, we are excited to be part of this initiative and to contribute to a better understanding of the human dimensions of the Blue Economy and the future of Mediterranean coastal communities.
