Dr Maria Rosa Garrido, Co-investigator, University of Lausanne (Section d’anglais), Switzerland
I am Lecturer in English Linguistics at the Université de Lausanne. My on-going postdoc project “Humanitarians on the move” (previously at Université de Fribourg, 2015-17) explores the management of linguistic resources at a major international organization with a focus on mobile workers’ trajectories across linguistic and national borders for humanitarian work.
I hold a BA in English Philology and a PhD in English Language and Linguistics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. My thesis, directed by Dr. Eva Codó, is a multi-sited, critical ethnography of a transnational social movement called Emmaus. It investigates the linguistic, discursive and semiotic creation of sameness and difference in this transnational imagined community.
My research interests include language, mobilities and social inequality; the sociolinguistic construction of transnational identities in international NGOs and social movements; multilingualism in globalising workplaces; and plurilingual approaches & multilingualism in non-formal and voluntary language education.
