The ICOS Cities event “Science meets City 2024” took place in Barcelona on Tuesday, November 19th, bringing together nearly 75 city representatives and leading scientists commited to tackling climate change in urban environments.
Gara Villalba contributed to Session 11: Quantification of urban greenhouse gas emissions – from novel monitoring to source identification, where she presented the greenhouse gas monitoring network deployed by the URBAG group in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. This network consists in five Picarro G2301 located in a strategic places (agricultural, coast, urban Parks and urban areas), which measure C02, CH4 and H2Ov. This network is openly accessible here.
In this presentation, Gara Villalba also highlighted the CO2 measurement campaign conducted between May and October 2020. The campaign utilized two infrared analyzers (Licor 7000) calibrated with NOAA standards. The results of this study are detailed in an article published in Urban Forestry & Urban Greening: Exploring how the heterogeneous urban landscape influences CO2 concentrations: The case study of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.
