On May 15, 2025, Professor Gara Villalba, Full Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and PI of the URBAG project, participated in the Cities on the Frontline speaker series organized by the Resilient Cities Network. This globally attended event, now in its 2025 edition, brought together experts and urban practitioners to explore the theme: “Renaturing Cities: Restoring Ecosystems and Building Urban Resilience.”
Gara Villalba contributed to Session 11 at the ICOS Cities event "Science meets City 2024": Quantification of urban greenhouse gas emissions - from novel monitoring to source identification. She presented the greenhouse gas monitoring network deployed by the URBAG group in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.
When I first contacted Bob in 2001 inquiring how I could include Industrial Ecology in my PhD thesis, he taught me how to apply the principle of Material Flow Analysis to track chemical substances and assess chemical process in terms of efficiency, dissipative losses, and recycling opportunities throughout their life cycle.
Gara Villalba presented her work in a session held in memory of Bob Ayres at the Industrial Ecology GORDON 2024 conference. Urban and peri-urban agriculture (UA) can provide locally grown food at low environmental impact by maximizing the recycling of nutrients from the city to agricultural lands.

El curso "La economía Circular: ¿un mito o una posibilidad?" consta de seis módulos y cinco cuestionarios. Fruto del acuerdo entre la UAB y Coursera, todo el personal de la UAB (alumnos, PDI y PAS) pueden cursar de forma gratuita todos los cursos y programas producidos por la UAB
As every year, the AGU Annual Meeting has taken place, bringing together more than 25,000 participants from over 100 countries. Scientists, policymakers, communicators... Everyone is welcome to share science and try to better understand our planet and environment. This year, thanks to the hybrid model that capitalizes on both personal and virtual participation, Gara Villalba presented her work.
La Gara Villalba va participar com a ponent el passat 28 de març de 2023 a la Jornada de Balanç de la Declaració d'Emergència Climàtica. El 15 de gener de 2020 Barcelona va declarar l'emergència climàtica. En aquesta declaració es van fixar diverses accions per aplicar abans de 2030. El balanç presenta un 30% de les accions plantejades com a ja finalitzades, mentre que un 66% estan en execució i el 4% restant encara no s'han iniciat.
Gara Villalba (cap del projecte URBAG) va participar a la xerrada sobre ciència i innovació, acompanyada per Miranda Jessica Lubbers (antropòloga social i cultural), Fàtima Bosch (directora del CBATEG UAB) i Júlia Vergara-Alert (investigadora principal del grup de coronavirus zoonòtics de l'IRTA CReSA), moderada per Margarita Arboix (exrectora de la UAB).
Gara Villalba gave a short talk on the GHG monitoring network that she and her team are setting up in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. This presentation was part of the ICOS ERIC 17th General Assembly Info Day, which took place in Madrid the days 22nd and 23rd of November 2022 in a session hosted by the Minisitry of Science of Spain Maria Vallejo.
