Research interests: Yomna Khreifich is a doctoral candidate at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English: Language, Literature and Civilization, and a Joint Master’s Degree in English and American Studies from the UAB and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Her area of research focuses primarily on conflict and war-damaged settings in Graham Greene’s fiction, examining how these spaces are inseparable from the characters’ psychological instability and memory, and the novels’ narrative structures. Her two MA theses offered spatial readings—the first of Greene’s The Ministry of Fear (1943) and the second of The Third Man (both the 1950 novella and the 1949 film).
Her doctoral research continues along the same lines. By exploring Greene’s novels set within environments shaped by military, colonial, or ideological conflict, her thesis aims to go beyond readings of setting as a static or symbolic background, highlighting instead the active role of space in the representation of conflict. This project presents a case study on the relationship between literature, geopolitical conflict, and lived space in the mid-twentieth century. By examining war writing through the lenses of postcolonial conflict, memory, and trauma, it directly contributes to the research group’s comparative study of twentieth-century conflict.
