FADO-ME significantly advances heritage studies, ethnomusicology, and cultural policy by critically addressing fado’s sustainability within the Iberian cultural economy.

Its innovation lies in:

  1. exploring an under-researched tradition and its evolving role in heritage discourse
  2. analysing how musicians negotiate identity ans aesthetics amid globalisation
  3. situating fado within Iberian cultural policy to enable comparative studies of traditional music’s market adaptation.

Through ethnographic fieldwork, comparative analysis. and intersectoral engagement, the project addresses key gaps in how intangible heritage sustains cultural value in global markets.
