Title: Sistema inteligente para el control y mejora de rendimiento en procesos industriales de embotellado y producción de vinos y productos derivados (SMART-CELLAR) (Intelligent system for the control and improvement of performance in industrial processes of bottling and production of wines and derived products)
Total funding: 705.354,52 €
Grant UAB-CIMITEC: 506.910,10 €
Loan for companies: 188.522,20 €
Duration: September 2022 – August 2025

Project CPP2021-009080, funded by MCIN/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and by European Union Next GenerationEU/ PRTR, has the goal of contributing to the improvement and performance of production in the wine sector, introducing low-cost and highly sensitive microwave smart sensor technologies in wine producers’ facilities. Specifically, it seeks to influence two key aspects: on the one hand, to improve performance in bottling processes, in order to reduce waste, or optimize production loss; on the other, assisting the oenologist in the fermentation and aging processes of the wine. The development of functional pre-industrial prototypes in a real operating environment is foreseen.

The project RTC2019-007226-7, funded by MCIN/AEI /10.13039/501100011033, has as main goal the development of an unprecedented authentication and identification system based on RF/microwave ICT technologies, and specifically on the use of low-cost radio frequency identification tags without a chip (chipless-RFID), whose unique and non-reproducible identifier code guarantees the authenticity of the product against potential counterfeits. The development of a pre-industrial prototype of an authentication system is planned, consisting, on the one hand, in the design and manufacture of authenticity and identification labels and, on the other hand, in the design and manufacture of their reader, which has to provide the unique identifier code. The proposed system will be applied in two different fields: (i) document security and (ii) the authentication of valuable products, frequently subject to counterfeiting. In addition, an environmentally friendly system will be implemented, based on the use of recyclable labels (on a paper substrate), or biodegradable, including the use of environmentally sustainable inks.

The METASENSE Project is an industrial research and development project, whose general objective is the application of metamaterial-based technologies to the optimization and miniaturization of components for the development of new passive and active sensors with applications in agriculture, the environment, geology and related. On the one hand, the development of compact humidity sensors based on metamaterials is pursued, which represent an advance with respect to current sensors in terms of size and performance. On the other, the development of new RADAR sensors for remote detection, mainly of objects underground or in dangerous environments. This project refers to the implementation phase of the Eureka METASENSE project with the participation of Spain and Serbia. Participating in this initiative is ISEE 2007 (Integration Software and Electronics Engineering) as leader of the initiative and the Research Center in Metamaterials for Innovation in Electronic and Communication Technologies (CIMITEC) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Project co-funded by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism (Spain), within the framework of the call 1/2010 of the Plan Avanza, for the realization of projects and actions within the framework of the Strategic Action of Telecommunications and the Information Society within the National Plan Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2008-2011.
