The deSignis journal has launched a new Call for Papers as part of the Circulaciones series. This issue, sponsored by the MDYRS Project (I+D+i PID2023-147064OB-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and co-funded by the European Union – FEDER/UE) and by the LAPREC research group, falls within deSignis’s areas of semiotic interest, such as those linked to digital culture, feminism, identity, cultural hybridisation, borders, post-colonialism and intercultural conflicts.

The aim of this issue is to analyse the identification of collective imaginaries in migration processes through narratives constructed on social media and digital media, in order to identify and illustrate differences regarding the presence of the voices of women involved in these processes. In turn, migrant women, as well as using social media and digital media, draw on other types of connections as a source of information during their migration process, such as family, friends and close-knit networks. This enables the construction of other imaginaries which, due to their diversity, create a space where they can express their opinions and share experiences that facilitate their integration into the host country.

This issue therefore aims to present reflections, research and proposals focused on the analysis of discourses and collective imaginaries surrounding migration processes, with particular attention to their construction and circulation on digital platforms, specifically on the social media profiles of the digital editions of general-interest newspapers. The aim is to foster understanding of the migration narrative and the discourses that shape it, taking into account both the conditions under which they are produced and the dynamics of their reception. In this regard, analysing reception through group communication as a methodological tool enables us to identify how migrant women use messages from these digital media and social media, as well as other related information networks, through which we aim to capture the aspirations, desires, feelings, thoughts and experiences relating to women’s migration processes, thereby enabling us to ascertain the degree of relevance accorded to their voices in these processes.

We invite proposals in this field relating to topics such as:

• The narrative of migration and the discourse supporting it. Analysis of discourses and collective imaginaries surrounding migration processes.

• Digital media and social media. The circulation of constructed discourses on digital platforms and social media profiles.

• The polyphony of voices in constructed discourse. Identifying the presence of women in the discourse constructed by digital media and social media.

• Reception through group communication. Symbolic and cultural imaginaries. The perception of female migrants.

• The circulation of symbolic imaginaries. The presence of discourse constructed by migrant women.

And that they can answer the following questions and others like them:

1- Are the voices of migrant women represented in the construction of discourse on migration processes on digital platforms?

2- Does the discourse on women encompass multiple voices? Which ones prevail?

3- Are perceptions of migrant women in the construction of symbolic and cultural imaginaries promoted in the discourses generated on digital platforms?

4- To what extent is the discourse constructed by migrant women present in the circulation of symbolic and cultural imaginaries in contemporary societies?

This issue invites members of the semiotic community who wish to contribute to this project to reflect on the questions raised.
