We are pleased to announce that the Beyond Postmemory Research Group (POSTLIT) will host a research seminar on classed postmemory in contemporary Anglophone literature, entitled Classed Postmemory: The Unequal Inheritance of War and Conflict. The event will take place on Friday, 20 November 2026, in Room P‑15 at the Facultat de Psicologia i Logopèdia (UAB).

The seminar will be organised around three central questions: classed transmission, the material and social inheritance of conflict across generations; working-class home as archive: domestic and para-domestic spaces in which shelter and emotional labour absorb the afterlife of war; andresidual class feeling: the way contemporary texts look back to past wars looking for forms of class consciousness, militancy, solidarity or left belonging that now seem lost or only partially available.
We want to enquire into the ways that contemporary Anglophone literature and
culture represent the afterlives of war in ordinary, classed spaces. How does
conflict settle into wages, rents, neighbourhoods, family economies and domestic
spaces? How does class shape who is recruited, who returns, who cares, who is
forgotten and who is allowed to turn traumatic inheritance into recognised
cultural memory? And how might the idea of classed postmemory help us
rethink the relationship between conflict, social suffering and political loss?
