Fluctuation theorems, symmetry breaking and the energetics of quantum measurements

We review some of the so-called fluctuation theorems, which characterize the energetics of non-equilibrium processes. As an application we discuss the energetics of symmetry breaking on thermal states and the interpretation of the energy transfer in a quantum measurement.
