A central topic in the developing field of quantum technologies is the efficient encoding and decoding of classical information in and out of quantum systems. This process could also be assisted by correlated quantum systems shared between distant labs. Addressing both situations, we will discuss several recent demonstrations of quantum advantage in information processing tasks such as randomness generation, distributed computing, communication complexity, noisy channel simulation, and local authentication of classical data. Since all of these tasks take into account practical concerns such as causal constraints and finite amounts of resources, they entail several applications, which are realizable with the current state-of-the-art devices.
