This seminar is an introduction to the main problems that classical and quantum cryptography is supposed to solve. It is intended as an introduction for a couple of future seminars on more focused topics. It mainly explains what problems cryptography solves, what is possible, what is not, what types of adversaries and their collusions exists, when to consider what type of adversary, etc. Depending on time and interest, in this seminar I’ll introduce the basic problems that will be elaborated in future seminars: encryption of classical and quantum information, message authentication (QKD authenticated channel), bit commitment, coin tossing (including multiparty version), secret sharing, byzantine agreement, and more 🙂
