The outstanding degree of control and the good decoupling from the environment of ultracold gases opens the possibility to address long-standing fundamental questions on the dynamics of closed quantum systems. The good tunability allows in particular to rapidly change the system parameters and observe the subsequent quantum evolution. We investigated the dynamics during and after a change of the interaction strength for bosonic atoms confined to an optical lattice. We discuss the propagation of correlations in such systems and the question of thermalization at long times.
