Welcome to the website of the Research Group on Fundamental and Oriented Anthropology (GRAFO). We aim to contribute to the theoretical and methodological development of anthropology. We are based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and we are recognized as a Consolidated Research Group by the Generalitat of Catalonia (2021-SGR-00065).
The Research Group in Fundamental and Oriented Anthropology (GRAFO), created in 1999 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), is dedicated to the study of the living conditions and relational structures of culturally diverse groups or vulnerable populations, among others, as well as their relationship with the environment, sociocultural institutions and society in general.
Recognized as a Consolidated Research Group (SGR) by the Generalitat de Catalunya, GRAFO stands out for its dual focus: basic research that delves into the theoretical and conceptual foundations of anthropology and applied research aimed at solving specific problems in various social and cultural areas.
Our lines of research cover topics such as kinship, social networks, communities and socio-ecological relationships, with a clear commitment to knowledge transfer. Within the framework of applied research, we develop projects focused on areas such as personal and community support networks, natural resource management, sustainability, or parenting in vulnerable environments, working closely with social and institutional actors and agents to promote concrete and long-term solutions.
The research group follows the Code of Good Scientific Practice of the UAB.
