Welcome to the website of the Research Group on Fundamental and Oriented Anthropology (GRAFO). We aim to contribute to the theoretical and methodological development of anthropology. We are based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and we are recognized as a Consolidated Research Group by the Generalitat of Catalonia (2021-SGR-00065).
The research group GRAFO was founded in 1999. During the first nine years it was directed by Teresa San Roman and in the following nine years, from 2008 to 2017, by Aurora González Echevarría. Miranda Lubbers coordinated the grup during 2018-2021 and the current coordinator is José Luis Molina.
RESEARCH UNITS
Internally, the group is structured around four research units.
- getp-GRAFO (“Cross-cultural Studies of Kinship”), coordinated by Anna Piella and Jorge Grau,
- egolab-GRAFO (“Laboratory of Personal Networks and Communities”), coordinated by Hugo Valenzuela
- Coalesce Lab (“Laboratory for the Computational Analysis of Egonetworks, Social Cohesion, and Exclusion“) coordinated by Miranda Lubbers.
- Sea Peoples Lab (“Transdisciplinary research group on the socioecological relationships between humans and the ocean“) coordinated by Sílvia Gómez-Mestres.
The research group follows the Code of Good Scientific Practice of the UAB.
