Yesterday, Dr. Cristina Ros i Solé, Senior Lecturer in Language, Culture, and Learning at the Department of Educational Studies, Goldsmiths, and Chair of the International Association of Languages and Intercultural Communication, delivered an inspiring talk to our doctoral students, group members, and associates.
Her presentation explored how autoethnography and the concept of linguistic encirclement (Ndhlovu & Odhiambo, 2024) offer an alternative lens for researching the intercultural, emphasizing the role of language in decolonial processes. She argued that these tools equip researchers with new strategies to challenge rationalist, objective, hierarchical, and extractionist approaches that strip research subjects of their agency.
It was a thought-provoking discussion that sparked deep reflection and meaningful dialogue among the audience.
