Inventories of musical fonds in Catalonia
The elaboration of the catalogs that we have carried out during these years has consolidated the systematization of a treatment methodology for musical collections, which is still waiting to be incorporated into the archival and document management regulations. The description system incorporates the digitization of the musical incipits, which allows visualizing the paleographic characteristics of the manuscript.
The preparation of each printed volume of the IFMuC collection comes to an end with the writing of a methodological presentation that is accompanied by an introductory study in which mention is made of the personality of the collections, their history and the main musical contributions that they contains for the knowledge of the history of music in Catalonia. This study, which precedes the inventory, contains a historiographical chapter elaborated with data extracted from the documentation preserved in the historical archive to which the collection belongs, which help to complement the historical aspects of the mother institution that has generated the existence of the musical collection – chapel magisterium, organists, choirboys and couplets of minstrels or musicians-, as well as the biographical profiles of the composers that are represented, many of whom have remained unknown until the publication of the catalogues.
Since 2015, these publications precede the release of all the data and records collected in the IFMuC database, publicly accessible and completely free.
