Our partners from Memorial Democràtic (MEMO) in Spain organised an excursion for teachers interested in the dissemination of historical memory. From 10 to 12 July, a group of 25 teachers visited the sites associated with various women of the Republican Resistance in the south of France. They were accompanied by Josep Calvet, head of the content, education and projects department, and technicians from the MEMO educational service.
This was one of the WIRE actions developed by MEMO in Spain. They have also developed the educational dossier and resources such as a glossary or the biographies of women who resisted totalitarian regimes in Poland, Catalonia-Spain, Greece and Italy, and an itinerary to publicise the different spaces in the Arieja and Alta Garona regions where these women went, fought or were taken.
The trip with the teachers was an opportunity to get to know the heritage in depth and also to discuss and reflect with a group of experts.
The programme included a visit to the National Monument to the Republican Resistance in Prayols, the Centre for the History of the Resistance and the Deportation of Arieja in Varilhes, Gudas, the detention centre of Conxita Grangé, Maria Castelló and Elvira Ibarz, and the Camp de Vernet in Arieja, among others.
